Tonight I will get to see Mumford and Sons for the first time. Admittedly, it’s a little late in the game for me to be too excited. My musical taste, like with most people, has transitioned over the years. But I still remember four years ago watching this video, feeling strangely attached to those figures and that music.
I remember the first time I heard the line, “where you invest your love, you invest your life.” I feel that universal truth each day of my life. The love I put towards my school, the students, my work, my siblings, complete strangers, my parents, my college family, my long-term relationship, our freddy dog, my home… all of this love is my investment towards the rest of my life.
I am building a foundation for everything I want to get out of this world and I have learned that if something is built on love it will be able to sustain itself forever. This proves itself to me time and time again. My mismatched group of college friends remains the perfect example of this. I can go days, weeks, months without seeing their faces or having a conversation, but we pick right back up. Our love was that investment, an investment most of us made about a decade ago.
And we still come back for it.
