This evening I will be riding a Greyhound bus to DC.
After a quick search this morning I discovered a Poetry On Busses project.
Commuters from King County were asked to write poems that reflected a given theme and make a connection with their community. Check out a decade of transit poetry here!
Many of the poems I clicked around and read were wonderful. I love the idea of having a time constraint when writing. We practiced this last night during Philly Girls Read. The girls were given two minutes to write as much as they could. It sounds very collegiate of me, but I think some of our best material stems from the pressures we put on ourself. (That is absolutely something I would tell a professor after handing in a paper 16 minutes late)
Anyway, I will be sitting for almost four hours straight this evening… scribbling away in my journal and staring out the window, I’m sure.
