Doomsday.

school protestThe “Doomsday” Budget was approved.

“This is not the budget that anyone wants,” Superintendent William Hite Jr. said. “It falls catastrophically short of meeting the students’ needs.”

Catastrophe. That sounds about right.

I know I continue to post about this, but it shocks me on a daily basis. How is this possible? How can this happen to a city like this, on such a large scale? How is it that schools less than an hour outside of the city, schools I attended as a child, are not being hit like this? I see no solution in sight and have no confidence in those who have the power to change things.

I drove by the school district building yesterday and gave students high-fives. I told them I was a teacher and someone hugged me through my car window. I told them they deserved better, but I have no answers.
